A Surprise Above the Streets
Some of the best photographs happen when you least expect them. That was the case when I captured an installation of floating umbrellas while strolling through Granville Island in Vancouver. It was an ordinary morning, and I had stopped to grab a coffee when I happened to glance up. What I saw stopped me in my tracks.

Above me, a collection of colorful umbrellas hung in midair, suspended by nearly invisible wires. At first glance, it looked like they were simply floating, frozen in time. The simplicity of the composition, combined with the contrast of bright colors against the muted urban background, made for an image that felt both surreal and playful.

Seeing the Unseen
I knew I had to capture this moment, but I also wanted to find the right angle to emphasize the illusion. Positioning myself beneath the display, I adjusted my exposure to ensure the vibrant colors stood out while the sky remained soft and neutral. The result was a composition that draws the eye upward, inviting the viewer to experience the same sense of curiosity and wonder that I felt in that moment. The Magic of Everyday Scenes
This photograph is a reminder that beauty isn’t just found in grand landscapes or remote destinations—it’s hidden in everyday places, waiting to be noticed. Sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective to turn an ordinary walk into an extraordinary discovery.
